LBCC General Education Outcomes (GEOs) were approved by the Assessment of Student Learning Outcomes Subcommittee in February 2009 and refined by a joint ASLO Subcommittee and AD/GE Subcommittee workgroup so as to align the GEOs with the College's General Education Pattern, Plan A (Associates Degree). The Curriculum Committee approved further refinements in February 2011 based on recommendations derived from the curriculum mapping process.
The College's General Education Program aligns the GEOs and Plan A with its Philosophy of General Education. General Education takes its character from an extensive list of disciplines whose integration generates a broad field of common knowledge that is indispensable to students. General Education concerns itself with how disciplines form and reform their basic conceptualization and how these basic conceptualizations then link with one another to create this general field of understanding.

Assessment Reports - Curriculum Mapping
A curriculum map is a graphic organizer that illustrates how Plan A courses contribute to the overall General Education of students seeking the Associate's Degree. Such a graphic organizer can visually indicate where specific learning takes place and at what level of engagement such learning occurs. By such mapping the College can discern how each course serves the GE component of Plan A and ultimately the student. Curriculum maps, therefore, are a valuable means to produce objective evidence that can guide the College toward fulfilling its responsibilities ... more detail
Curriculum maps, therefore, are a valuable means to produce objective evidence that can guide the College toward fulfilling its responsibilities to GEO assessment. The General Education Outcomes Work Group has created the necessary curriculum maps and analysis as part of the GEO Initiative. Based on this evidence a report encompassing the results, key findings, conclusions and recommendations for actions has been developed and presented to key constituency groups to be addressed.
